Odors Or Uncomfortable Feelings Down There? What May Be Wrong And What You Can Do

Blog

That uncomfortable pinching feeling or that feeling that takes your breath away throughout the day in your vagina is more than just a fluke. If you also have odors, there could be a few different things going on. Prolonging any treatment for these issues can result in further problems for you. It's always best to talk to your gynecologist about these issues, get an exam, and receive treatment. Read on for a few things that may be wrong and what you can do about them.

Vaginal Infection

A vaginal infection can cause odors, as well as itchiness or an uncomfortable burning feeling. You may also have discharge that is out of the norm and an abnormal color — yellow or green. You may have pain in your entire uterine area if it's a bad infection, or the infection could travel elsewhere in the body leaving you with a fever, chills, and nausea. If you suspect you have a vaginal infection, you need to make sure you are cleaning yourself properly in the shower, showering after sex, and showering after working out. Also make sure you are staying dry in this area as well, as moisture will allow yeast to grow, leading to a yeast infection. Wear underwear that is breathable, such as cotton, and change your underwear often if you are prone to sweating. Get to the gynecologist for an exam and for medication to treat the infection.

STD

There may also be a chance that the uncomfortable feeling you are experiencing is an STD. You could have vaginal warts, genital herpes, gonorrhea, or chlamydia, which are all STDs and transmitted from unprotected sexual intercourse. Be sure you and your partner are both doing what you can do protect yourself against STDs. If you aren't sure how to protect yourself against these and other STDs, you can talk to your gynecologist about this. Go in for treatment if you suspect you have an STD. Some can be treated with medication, while others may need to be burned off, such as genital warts.

If you have odors and an uncomfortable feeling in your vagina, there's a good chance there's a problem going on down there. Don't allow the issue to grow into a much bigger issue. Get to the gynecologist for an exam and any necessary treatment. Remember to keep yourself appropriately clean and protect yourself against STDs. Talk to your gynecologist about other things you can do to prevent these issues.
